1. Secure energyNo energy, no first phase. Sleep, morning daylight, water, movement, before the phone comes on. If you are tired you do not need a flow trick, you need a night.
2. Choose one thingNot three. One task with a clear goal, where you can tell whether it is moving, one step harder than comfortable. Fix the time and place: "When I sit down at my desk tomorrow at nine, then …"
3. Through the resistanceThe first ten minutes are almost always heavy. That is not a mistake, that is the ticket in. Ten minutes on the one thing, then you may stop. Most people do not stop.
4. ReleaseStop pushing, stop checking who you are doing it for. First draft without correction. Five minutes of slow exhaling beforehand measurably lower arousal.
5. ProtectFlow needs uninterrupted time. After an interruption it takes an average of 23 minutes to get back to the task. So: two hours unreachable, announced in advance.
6. RecoverDo not carry straight on after flow. Twenty minutes without a screen, walking, writing, silence. This is the phase almost everyone skips, and the reason no high lasts forever.
